Recipes and other Fun Stuff

 Homemade paint (cornstarch version, cooked)

2 cups water
1/2 cup cornstarch
3 TBSP sugar
1/2 tsp salt

Mix ingredients together in a small pot on the stove over low heat until the mixture thickens.
Let it cool and pour into containers.
Add food colouring, or flavored drink mix powder such as cool aid to add scent as well as colour.

Have fun!

If the mixture gets too thick, just add a LITTLE water at a time to get the desired texture.

I find the paints can be used as fingerpaints, or with brushes and stamps.

Do-it-yourself popsicles

You'll need some molds to freeze them
Popsicle sticks
Juice (we have used frozen OJ concentrate and  Fruitopia's Strawberry Passion Awareness frozen concentrate)
Fresh or frozen strawberries
Blender or food processor

Blend up the berries until they are mush
Add juice
Pour into the molds with sticks and freeze for a few hours
Enjoy!

Milk Magic

What you need:
Lid or small dish with a lip/edge
Milk (homo works best)
Liquid food colourings
Dishsoap
Toothpick

What you do:
Pour the milk into the lid or dish. Drop a few drops of food colouring carefully into the milk in different spots. Be sure to not mix it up yet!
Dip the end of the toothpick into the soap, then put it into the middle of the colour spot.
Watch the colors race away from the toothpick.

Slimy Goo (using borax)

First solution:
About 1/4 cup white school glue, such as Elmer's (I used a generic brand)
About 1/4 cup water
Food colouring, if you want to make it coloured

Second Solution:
1/2 tsp borax
1/2 cup water

Mix first and second solutions separatly.
When they are mixed, pour one into the other, and mix with a spoon. You will have to eventually remove it from the bowl and use your fingers to mix it. Don't worry about the left over water in the bowl, that can be discarded.
